Role in Office

Rita Piccolo is the Assistant Director for Study Abroad. She advises students interested in studying in Italy, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Switzerland. Rita is OIP's liaison to the Office of the Dean for Student Development.  In addition, she is also responsible for creating and implementing a new pre-advising process which will begin in the fall of 2008.

Education

Rita Riccolo received her Bachelor's degree in Italian Literature and Economics from Boston University. During her junior year at BU, she studied abroad for an academic year at the Università degli Studi di Padova in Northern Italy. Rita completed her graduate work at Boston College where she was awarded a Teaching Fellowship and taught Elementary Italian to BC students while studying for an M.A. in Italian Literature. Once she completed her first Master’s degree, Rita began to pursue another M.A. in Higher Education and Administration at BC.

Administrative Experience

Prior to entering graduate school, Rita Piccolo worked in corporate at Brown Brothers Harriman. After her M.A. in Higher Education and Administration, she worked as an Area Director in the Office of Residential life at St. John’s University in Queens, New York, where she contributed to the development and implementation of the Residential Life program. She continued her work in Student Affairs at New York University as a Residence Hall Manager, where she oversaw and supervised one of the largest freshman residence halls. In 2003, Rita returned to BC as an Assistant Director of the Freshman Area with the Office of Residential Life. Rita joined the Office of International Programs in 2005, where she works with students in both an academic capacity, as well as in the field of student development.

Areas of Interest

Rita's experience at BC has afforded her the opportunity to connect with students on a deeper level outside of Study Abroad. She has had the opportunity to direct several student retreats organized through Campus Ministry. Rita also served as an adult leader on the international summer service trip to Jamaica, leading BC students on a 16-day journey into rural Jamaica.
