WebCT Information for Faculty

WebCT is a web-based application used to make and host course web sites. Simply, you log into the WebCT application using a web browser, you edit your course site by clicking on buttons and filling in forms, and then you log out. Your students log into WebCT, click on your course, and see the site you have created. They can interact with it, but they cannot make changes to it unless you allow them to.

The tools included with WebCT are its strongest suit. All WebCT course sites are automatically password protected, and students get individual accounts. WebCT includes bulletin boards and chat rooms, online quizzes and surveys, a grade book, a calendar and other tools that are difficult to implement on a regular (free-form) web site.

WebCT is also a company. While the original program was developed at the University of British Columbia, it was sold in 1999 to a company that now calls itself WebCT. You may visit their web site by clicking here.
