RealPlayer Software Vulnerability
Patch instructions FOR WINDOWS USERS
Summary:  A vulnerability has been identified in certain versions of RealPlayer. This page explains what Windows users should do to fix this vulnerability.

Affected platforms

Users running Vista, Windows XP, 2000, 98, or ME

* RealPlayer 10
* RealPlayer 10.5
* RealPlayer 11 beta
* RealOne Player and RealOne Player v2

What software version am I using?

To learn what version of software you are currently using:

  1. Open RealPlayer.
  2. From the applications toolbar, click Help>About RealPlayer.
  3. The version number will appear on the popup window.

Patch instructions RealPlayer version 10, 10.5, 11 beta, RealOne Player and RealOne Player v2 on Windows XP, 2000, 98, or ME

Please note: You must be an administrator on your computer to install the patch

  1. Close all applications.
  2. Open RealPlayer.
  3. From the toolbar click Tool>Check for Update (see Figure 1).

  4. The AutoUpdate window will open.
  5. Click the Check Box next to the RealPlayer 10.5 with Harmony™ Technology component (see Figure 2).

  6. Click the Accept button on the End User License Agreement window.
  7. Uncheck the option to Include Desktop Weather from the Weather Channel. (see Figure 3)

  8. Select the Program Location and uncheck all of the Desktop Settings options (see Figure 3).

  9. Select the radio button to make RealPlayer your Universal Media Player or Select Media Types from a List (see Figure 4).

  10. Click Next.
  11. Select the Basic Setup radio button (see Figure 5).

  12. Click Continue.
  13. Click Cancel on the Product Registration window.
  14. When prompted to complete the RealPlayer Registration, click Exit.

Installation instruction for RealPlayer on Vista Operating System

  1. Click here to download a new player from the web.
  2. In the top right hand corner of the web page, click Free RealPlayer (see Figure 6).

  3. Click Save File.
  4. Save the RealPlayer11BETA.exe file to your Desktop (see Figure 7).

  5. Close all applications.
  6. Double-click the RealPlayer11BETA.exe.
  7. Click Accept.
  8. Uncheck Add a desktop shortcut for RealPlayer (see Figure 8).
  9. Uncheck Enable browser button download (see Figure 8).
  10. Uncheck Use RealPlayer to automatically open any videos... (see Figure 8).
  11. Click Next (see Figure 8).

  12. Click No Thanks when offered an upgrade.
  13. Click Finish.
