About Secure Wireless

Bcsecure provides faculty, staff, and students with a secure, reliable, way to connect to the wireless network. Unlike other wireless services, bcsecure encrypts wireless data transmissions using WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2).

Why Use Secure Wireless?

• Wireless networks broadcast and retrieve data through the air using radio frequencies, similar to those used by cordless phones. Data, such as credit card numbers, passwords, email or instant messages, transmitted “in the clear” over an unencrypted wireless service can be intercepted and viewed by a malicious user without your knowledge.
  
• Data that is submitted via an unsecure web site or application is even more vulnerable. While BC WebMail is secure, many popular Internet e-mail services are not secure by default. Chatting and instant messaging and many social networking sites, such as MySpace, are not secure making it even easier for your information to be intercepted. Bcsecure is an easy, effective way to secure your wireless data traffic.

Wireless Service for Older Laptops

BostonCollege is offered to members of the Boston College community who have a BC username and password. BostonCollege provides easy access to the Boston College high-speed wireless network. BostonCollege is not a secure wireless network but is an alternative for older laptops that do not meet the requirements for bcsecure.
