Printing in
the CTRC using Macintosh OS X
Leopard & Tiger
Important Notice: Students
can print 500 pages per semester for free. If you print over 500 pages, you
will be charged 3 cents per page to your Eagle Bucks account. Learn more

Important: If your document is over 36
pages, you are required to send it to the High-Volume Printer. Learn how to
print
to the High-Volume Printer using Mac OS X.

Part 1: Download and install Pharos software
To download and install Pharos software:
- Log in to your computer as an Administrator.
- Make sure you are connected to BC's network. Learn how
to connect to BC's wired network or learn how
to connect to BC's wireless network.
Download
Pharos Print Management Pop-Up Client 8.0 now (File size: 252 KB).
- When prompted, enter your BC username and password.
- Double-click the Popup 8.0 icon on your desktop to
begin installation, and then double-click Popup.pkg.
- Click Continue (see Figure 1).

- Click Continue (see Figure 2).

- Do the following (see Figure 3):
- Click Macintosh HD (e.g., your hard drive name).
- Click Continue.

- Click Install (see Figure 4).

- When prompted, enter the name and password you use to sign in to your
computer, and then click OK.
- The Pharos Popup Client installation is complete. Click Close
(see Figure 5).

- You can now delete the Popup 8.0 and Popup.dmg
files from your desktop.
Part 2: Add CTRC printer using Leopard
To add the CTRC printer using Leopard:
- From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
- Double-click the Print & Fax icon (see Figure
6).

- Click the + [plus button] (see Figure 7).

- Hold down <Ctrl> and click anywhere on the Toolbar
(see Figure 8).

- Select Customize Toolbar (see Figure 9).

- Drag and drop the Advanced icon onto the Toolbar (see
Figure 10).

- Once the Advanced icon is added to the Toolbar, click Done (see
Figure 11).

- On the Advanced tab, do the following (see Figure
12):
- From the Type drop-down list, select Pharos Print Server.
- In the URL box, type: popup://pharos-ps1.bc.edu:515/CTRCPrintQueue
- In the Name box, type: CTRC Printer
- From the Print Using drop-down list, select Lexmark T644.
- Click Add.

- The Printer List now has CTRC Printer in it (see Figure 13).

- To print documents using a printer shortcut on your desktop, do the
following:
- To create a desktop shortcut to this printer: From the Printer List,
drag the printer to your desktop.
- To print to that printer: Drag documents to the printer shortcut on
your desktop.
- When printing to the CTRC, be sure to enter your BC username when
prompted (see Figure 14).

Your print jobs remain in the queue for 48 hours, making it easier to print
to the CTRC from anywhere.
Important: If your document is over 36

Add CTRC printer using Tiger
To add the CTRC printer using Tiger:
- Open the Printer Setup Utility

which is located on your Macintosh Hard Drive/Applications/Utilities/Printer
Setup Utility (see Figure 15).

- On the Printer List, click Add (see Figure 16).

- Press the <Option> key and click More Printers
(see Figure 17).

- Do the following (see Figure 18):
- From the drop-down list, select Advanced.
- From the Device drop-down list, select Pharos
Print Server.
- In the Device Name box, type: CTRCPRINTERS
- In the Device URL box, type: popup://pharos-ps1.bc.edu:515/CTRCPrintQueue

- Do the following (see Figure 19):
- From the Printer Model drop-down list, select Lexmark.
- From the Model Name box, select Lexmark Optra

- Click Add.
