Printing over 36 pages in the CTRC using Mac OS X (Panther)
Summary:  Learn how to print over 36 pages in the CTRC using Mac OS X (Panther). These instructions are for computers anywhere on-campus or documents larger than 36 pages.

Important Notice: Beginning August 6, 2007, students can print 500 pages per semester for free. If you print over 500 pages, you will be charged 3 cents per page to your Eagle Bucks account. Learn more about BC's student printing policy.

To set up to print over 36 pages in the CTRC using Macintosh OS 10.3 (Panther):

  1. Log in to your computer as an Administrator.

  2. Make sure you are connected to BC's network. Learn how to connect to BC's wired network or learn how to connect to BC's wireless network.

  3. If you haven't already installed the Lexmark printer driver, download the T644 driver from the Lexmark Web site.

  4. Open Safari and go to: New Window www.bc.edu/software/applications/print.html
    Under Pharos Print Management Pop-Up Client 6.1 (Mac OSX), click the Mac icon: Download Mac OS X software icon
    Note: If you use Internet Explorer, press the <Option> key while clicking the Mac icon.

    - OR -

    Open Safari and New Window download Pharos Print Management Pop-Up Client 6.1 now (File size: 252 KB).

  5. When prompted, enter your BC username and password.

  6. Double-click the Popup.dmg icon to begin installation, and then double-click Popup.pkg.

  7. Click Continue (see Figure 1).

  8. Click Continue (see Figure 2).

  9. Do the following (see Figure 3):
    • Click Macintosh HD.
    • Click Continue.

  10. Click Install (see Figure 4).

  11. When prompted, enter the Name and Password used to sign in to your computer, and then click OK.

  12. Enter the following (see Figure 5):
    • In the Server Address box, type: 136.167.14.226
    • Do not change the Server Port or Server Timeout(s).
    • Click Continue.

  13. Leave the Client Port as the default. Click Continue (see Figure 6).

  14. Click Continue (see Figure 7).

  15. Click Done (see Figure 8).

  16. The Pharos Popup Client installation is complete. Click Close (see Figure 9).

  17. You can now delete the Popup 6.1 and Popup.dmg files from your desktop.

  18. Open the Printer Setup Utility Printer Setup Utility, which is located on your Macintosh Hard Drive/Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility.

  19. On the Printer List, click Add (see Figure 10).

  20. Press the <Option> key and click More Printers (see Figure 11).

  21. Do the following (see Figure 12):
    • From the drop-down list, select Advanced.
    • From the Device drop-down list, select Pharos Print Server.
    • In the Device Name box, type: CTRCOver36Pages
    • In the Device URL box, type: popup://pharos-ps1.bc.edu:515/CTRCOver36Pages

  22. Do the following (see Figure 13):
    • From the Printer Model drop-down list, select Lexmark.
    • From the Model Name box, select Lexmark Optra T.
    • Click Add.

    The Printer List now has CTRCOver36Pages in it (see Figure 14).

  23. To print documents using a printer shortcut on your desktop, do the following:
    • To create a desktop shortcut to this printer: From the Printer List, drag the printer to your desktop.
    • To print to that printer: Drag documents to the printer shortcut on your desktop.

Retrieving Print Jobs over 36 Pages Sent to the CTRC

Go to the high-volume printers in the back of the CTRC and swipe your BC ID at the print release station.  Your job will print at the first available printer. 

Note:  Your print jobs remain in the queue for 48 hours, making it easier to print to the CTRC from anywhere.
