Summary:  Thank you for purchasing an Apple laptop through the BC Laptop Program. We hope the following information is helpful to you as you get started with your BC laptop. If you have any questions, please call the Help Center at 617-552-HELP (4357).

Get McAfee Virex anti-virus software

IMPORTANT NOTE:: ITS is in the process of finalizing the Mac anti-virus software for the 2008-2009 school year. More information will be posted here when it becomes available.

Get the required Mac anti-virus software free of charge at: www.bc.edu/virus
Important: Currently, there is NO anti-virus software on your new laptop. All computers on the BC network must be running McAfee anti-virus software.

Update Mac OS X

You'll need to bring your computer up-to-date with any Mac software updates released by Apple since your computer shipped. You should automatically be prompted to update your computer. If not, from the Apple menu, select Software Update.

Install Microsoft Office

To install Microsoft Office 2008 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Entourage), get it from the Software Download site at:  www.bc.edu/software.

Get the software you need to register for classes

Get BC UIS to access BC's course registration system:

• Learn how to install BC UIS.
• Learn how to use BC UIS to register for classes at BC.

Keep all your laptop accessories with your laptop

Make sure to keep all of the items included with your laptop, including the Ethernet cable, with your laptop. You may find that you need them at some point.

Backup your important files

Start a good habit: Backup your important stuff on an external hard drive or your BC MyFiles@bc space at  www.bc.edu/myfiles. Learn more at:  www.bc.edu/backup
