You can automatically forward all of your BC email to another email address. This feature is useful when you have more than one email account at BC and you want to make sure that your email is sent to the account that you use the most.
Note: By default, Spam Control is turned on for all forwarded accounts.
Learn
how to keep a BC email address after graduating by signing
up for Lifetime Email Forwarding.
To set up email forwarding:
- Log into WebMail.
- From the
top right, click Preferences.
- Click on the Mail Forwarding link.
The Mail Forwarding page appears (refer to Figure 1).

Figure 1.
- Click On.
Important: Once you get back from your vacation
or conference, make sure to turn off forwarding by clicking Off,
then clicking Update.
- In the box, enter an email address. For example: "jdoe@example.com"
You can enter multiple email addresses to forward to, just separate the email
addresses by a comma (,). For example: john.doe@yahoo.com,jane.doe@hotmail.com
Caution: DO NOT forward your email to your own BC email address @bc.edu or you will not receive any email because it will be stuck in an infinite loop.
- If you want a copy of your incoming email to remain on the Boston College
email server, check the box next to Keep a copy.
If you do not select this option, your email will NOT be saved on BC's email
server.
- If you do not want any automatic messages forwarded such as auto replies,
listserv messages, or error messages, check the box next to Do
not forward automatic messages.
- Click Update.
What happens if I have both Forwarding and Auto Reply turned on?
If you have both Forwarding and Auto
Reply turned on,
the email address you specified in Forwarding receives all your new email
that would normally go to your BC account. A copy of all new email also remains
in your BC account and anyone sending email to your BC account will receive
the auto reply message you composed.
