Follow these steps to set up eduroam for Windows 7 computers.
BC ITS strongly recommends completing the setup and testing eduroam on the BC campus before traveling abroad.
- Select Start and then Control Panel. In the Control Panel, select Network and Internet.
- In the Network and Internet panel, click Network and Sharing Center.
- Select Set up a new connection or network.
- Select Manually connect to a wireless network.
- On the manual configuration screen, enter eduroam in the Network Name field,WPA2-Enterprise as the Security Type, and AES as the Encryption Type. Then, click Next.
- The next screen will say that the eduroam has been configured. Click Change connection settings to configure additional options.
- The Connection screen should have the details filled in already. Click the Security tab, then the Settings button.
- In the PEAP Properties window uncheck the Validate Server Certificate box.
On the EAP-MSCHAP secured password option, click on the Configure button.
- Uncheck the box to use your Windows credentials, then click OK. Click OK again.
- From the Security tab on the eduroam Wireless Network Properties screen, click the Advanced Settings button.
- On the Advanced Settings screen click on the 802.1X Settings tab.
Check Specify authentication mode and, from the pull-down menu, select User Authentication. Click OK.
- Select OK to close all the various dialogue boxes.
- Select Close to close the Manually connect to a wirless network screen.
- Once near a eduroam access point, select Connect to a network. Select eduroam from the list of connections, then click Connect.
- When you request access to eduroam, BC ITS will provide you with a password. When prompted, enter your BC User ID in the format email@example.com and this password (not your usual BC password) into the appropriate fields to access eduroam.
Please do not set eduroam as your preferred wireless network. BCSecure should be the preferred wireless network for members of the BC community while on campus.
