Setting up MyFiles@bc through a Web Folder

In addition to working with files through a web browser, you can also create a web folder on your Mac OS X computer. This allows you to easily drag files into a folder on your desktop that represents your space on the MyFiles@bc server.

If you create a web folder on your Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or later computer for your MyFiles@bc space, you can:

• Use MyFiles@bc files and folders just like local files and folders on your computer. Save files, open files, and delete files to and from your MyFiles@bc web folder through most applications, such as Word or Excel, just as you would do with files or folders on your computer - instead you are saving to your MyFiles@bc space.
• Drag and drop files or cut and paste them directly into your MyFiles@bc web folder within Mac OS X.

Note: You cannot set up sharing of files or folders through the web folder. If you want to share files or folders, learn how to use the web application to set up sharing.

Creating a web folder to your MyFiles@bc space

Important:

• Copying files to your MyFiles@bc space may take much longer than you would expect, especially when you access MyFiles@bc for the first time.
• For security reasons, we do not recommend creating a web folder for your MyFiles@bc space if you are on a shared or public computer.
• You cannot create a web folder using a computer with Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) or earlier.

To create a web folder using Mac OS X:

1. From the Finder Go menu, click Connect to Server.
2. In the Server Address box, type [replacing "username" with your BC username]:https://wfs.bc.edu/username

3. To add your MyFiles@bc web folder to your Favorite Servers list, click the + sign (see Figure 2).

4. Click Connect.
5. When prompted, enter your BC username and password, then click OK (see Figure 3).

6. Now you can easily drag and drop files into your MyFiles@bc web folder, which appears on your desktop.
   For Tiger 10.4: Your web folder will have your BC username instead of "ITS":
   For Leopard 10.5: No icon appears on your desktop. If you exit out of your MyFiles@bc web folder, you can access it again by clicking Go, selecting Recent Folders, then clicking your username.
   Important: When accessing MyFiles@bc through the web you'll notice extra files that the Mac Finder creates for each file - do not delete these extra files.
   
7. To access your MyFiles@bc web folder after you restart your computer, follow Steps 1-5 above (skipping Step 3).
