Diversity Fellows at Boston College
History of the Program
The Diversity Fellowship was created 20 years ago under the name Minority Fellowship, and funding was offered to help Boston College diversify the student population. Fellowships were awarded to students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in the fields of Arts and Science, Education, Social Work, or Nursing. As the Fellowship evolved, the name changed as well to reflect the signs of the times. Students awarded the fellowships represent many aspects of diversity – socioeconomic, religious, race, gender, educational background, and age – and the fellowship evolved to reflect this.
Program Description
Boston College is proud to have 25 Doctoral students receiving the Diversity Fellowship. This fellowship is awarded to 5 students each year for their research, teaching, and scholarship in either Arts and Sciences, Education, Social Work, or Nursing. Incoming scholars are selected based on their research/teaching interests and educational background. Each fellow receives 5 years of full funding. The Diversity Fellows program is coordinated by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and supported by the Deans of the affiliated schools and the Office of Graduate Student Life.
