We invite you to submit nominations for the 2009 Graduate Student Awards. The Graduate Student Awards recognize those students whose lives reflect the mission and values of Boston College. There are two types of awards: The School Awards which are awarded by the specific graduate schools and The University Awards which are awarded by a multi-disciplinary committee of faculty, students and staff.

The University Awards
The University awardees are selected by a multi-disciplinary committee of faculty, administrators and graduate students, and the process is overseen by the Associate Dean for Graduate Student Life. There are eight University Awards, descriptions of which are below. These awards are reflective of the Boston College Mission Statement and highlight the depth and breadth of graduate student involvement at Boston College.
The Ever to Excel Award is given to the student who has demonstrated rigorous intellectual development as well as ethical and personal formation, preparing him or her for service and leadership in a global society.
The Research Excellence Award is given to the student who has produced nationally and internationally significant research that advances insight and understanding, thereby both enriching culture and addressing important societal needs.
The Mentoring Excellence Award is given to the student who has committed him or herself to advancing intellectual dialogue and inquiry through mentorship of other Boston College students.
The Men and Women for Others Award is given to the student who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and leadership to the local or global community.
The Set the World Aflame Award is given to the student who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and leadership to the Boston College Community.
The John Courtney Murray, S.J. Award for Student Life is given to the student who has made a substantial contribution to the betterment of student life and has shown great care for others.
The Sr. Thea Bowman Award is given to the student who has provided exceptional leadership and/or service to the graduate AHANA community.
The Commitment to Change Award is given to a group of students or a student organization that has shown the courage to advocate for change and confront difficult issues through dialogue and conversation.
The School Awards
The Dean's Offices of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Connell School of Nursing, Carroll School of Management, Lynch School of Education, Graduate School of Social Work, Law School, School of Theology and Ministry and the Woods College of Advancing Studies award the three Graduate School Awards indicated below. Each graduate school gives three awards, although a particular award may be shared by two students.
The Academic Achievement Award is given to the student who shows outstanding academic excellence, intellectual rigor and scholarship in his or her graduate studies and/or research.
The Contribution to Community Award is given to the student who demonstrates exceptional commitment to either the graduate student, particular graduate school, or wider Boston College community.
The School Awards: The criteria for the School Awards are determined by the Deans based on the mission of each graduate school.
