Boston College Graduate Intersections

How do you balance your "academic" life and your "real" life?  How do you build a successful career and at the same time live a meaningful life?  BC Grad Intersections is a free, overnight program that uses Ignatian reflective practices to facilitate conversation around these and other key life questions.  This program also offers your the opportunity to nourish your spiritual self, meet fellow graduate and professional students, and re-charge your batteries in a beautiful, ocean-side setting.  Faculty and staff service as program facilitators.

Frequently asked questions about Graduate Intersections

When is this program?

The next program will be held in the fall of 2008.

Who is eligible to apply?

All currently enrolled grad students are welcome to participate in this program.

Do I have to be Catholic to participate?

No. Graduate Intersections is open to students from all faith backgrounds and experiences and in the past our students reflected this diversity. While the program format is based on the ideals of Boston College and the Jesuit tradition, it is intended to be a time of reflection and community building for graduate students. The program uses the principles of Ignatian Spirituality to explore a number of major areas.

How much does this program cost?

The program is FREE, but we ask each interested applicant to submit a refundable $50 deposit.  Because of the costs incurred, we must have a financial guarantee from each accepted student.

What will we do during this program?

The components of the program include both large and small group discussion, a faculty panel, journaling opportunities, and free time to walk, read, or socialize.  The curriculum helps students reflect on the balance in their lives, what values are important to them, and how their career choice fits with these values.

Where do we stay?

We stay at Bellarmine House, the Boston College Jesuit Retreat House, which is a beautiful 18th century mansion in Cohasset, Massachusetts, located right on the shores of the Atlantic. Students stay in single or double rooms with a shared bath.  All meals are family style and are prepared by an on-site chef.

How will I get there?

We will either carpool or rent a bus to travel to Cohasset.

Who are the faculty coordinators?

We are fortunate to have Father John Murray, S.J. of the Boston College Jesuit Community as our faculty lead along with the Rev. Judith Stuart, the Episcopal Chaplain at BC. A BC faculty member will join the team this spring. In addition to the faculty, three student co-facilitators, all of whom participated in the program previously, will join our faculty group.

Who can I talk to if I have questions?
