48HOURS Team Leaders

First Year Experience

What is a Team Leader?

On each 48HOURS weekend, approximately 12 upperclassmen join the team as Team Leaders. Each Team Leader is assigned a group of first-year students; during the retreat weekend Team Leaders are the heart of the program. By engaging in personal discussions with their groups, they share the advice and the wisdom they have collected over the years.

Team Leaders are encouraged to keep in touch with their groups following the weekend, helping provide valuable advice and friendship based on a mentoring relationship that 48HOURS initiates.

Working with members of the First Year Experience team, some Team Leaders will prepare and present talks to the students in attendance during the course of the weekend. Other Team Leaders will have opportunities to participate as panelists during the course of the weekend.

What do I need to become a Team Leader?

First of all, Team Leaders must have a great attitude -- positive, enthusiastic, cooperative, and willing to work very hard. Second, they must support the philosophy of the 48HOURS program. Third, they must like interacting with people.
