Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Gathering

office for institutional diversity

The public is invited to experience the Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Gathering, Monday, January 23, 2012, 7:30PM in Gasson 100.  The gathering, an Ecumenical Worship Service celebrating the life and legacy of the late, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, will feature offerings from the African-American church tradition.

This joyful gathering will feature the United Voices of Freedom, a joint musical effort of campus choirs and singers. The year's group is composed of Against the Current, the Liturgy Arts Group, the Voices of Imani and other campus singers.  The group will be under the direction of guest conductor, Rashad McPhearson.  Rashad is a composer and musician who became involved in music at a very early age. He began playing the drums at two, taking piano lessons at four and wrote his first song at six.  Currently, 23, Rashad is a graduate of Boston's Berklee College of Music and serves as Minister of Music of the dynamic Bethel AME Church in Jamaica Plain.

In addition to others, the gathering will feature a sermon by the Reverend Paul Roberson Ford,  one of metro Boston's newest pastors.  Installed as the Senior Pastor of the historic Union Baptist Church of Cambridge in October of  2011.  Rev. Ford is currently completing a Ph.D. in Theology at the University of Chicago.  Noted for his youthful enthusiasm and profound insight, we look forward to welcoming Reverend Ford and Rashad McPhearson to the Boston College campus.
