Dear Colleague:

The Office for Institutional Diversity will host the third Diversity and Inclusion Summit: One Community, Many Perspectives on May 23, 2018, in Gasson Hall from 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Guided by Jesuit principles, the Summit will focus on the multiple ways our community is building capacity to advance and sustain inclusive excellence.

The Program Committee seeks proposals for workshops, posters or exhibits that will engage the University workforce on all issues related to the Summit’s theme: One Community, Many Perspectives and contribute to the participants’ knowledge and skills towards inclusive excellence.  We invite you and those in your area to submit a proposal that reflects work you have done or are currently doing in support of diversity and inclusion at or on behalf of Boston College.  Previously submitted proposals are encouraged.

The Program Committee is interested in proposals that offer practical guidance that can be used on a daily basis. After a keynote address and before and after a panel discussion, the Summit will feature sixty (60) minute concurrent sessions that will highlight selected proposals. To help prepare your proposal, please review the information below before clicking the online submission form.  

Please consider the following:

For Posters, Exhibits and Sessions Proposals:

  • Learning Objective: How will your proposed session, poster or exhibit have clear learning objectives topic relevance to this year’ Summit theme.   

  • Presenters: All presenters must be current faculty or staff members at Boston College.  (Doctoral students and Post-Docs must be paired/teamed with current faculty or staff members.   Master's level and undergraduate students are not eligible to present.)

  • Universal Design: We encourage all proposals to include a diversity of learning styles, mobility, and visual ability, etc.  If you need support with universal design  please reach out to Disability Services.

For Session Proposals:

  • Length:  Sessions are 60 minutes please provide an agenda with timeline that allows for ample Q&A.

  • Interactive: Wherever possible, we encourage presenters to actively engage participants in creating their own learning, versus being passive observers of media, speakers, etc.  Beyond including question and answer time at the end, how can you involve the participants?

You will be asked to provide the following information about your program proposal, which we suggest having ready to copy and paste into the application. You will not be able to save or return to incomplete submissions:

  • Session title and relevance to Summit theme

  • Format of Session

  • Session abstract (for publication 150 words max)

  • Session description (for selection committee only)

  • Name of Primary Workshop Leader, title, email address, and  phone number

  • Three specific session outcomes

  • A/V and technology needs

For Poster and/or  Exhibits:

  • Size of Poster: Posters should be approximately “20 x 25” to “30 x 42” and mounted on foam core or board to allow them to be displayed on easels.

  • Exhibit Space:  A 6 foot table will be available and may be shared space.

  • Summit Committee will provide the easels to display posters.

  • Posters and Exhibits will be on display from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.  

Proposal submissions are due no later than January 17, 2018 to Proposal Submission Form.   Proposals will not be accepted beyond the deadline date.  Members of the Program Committee in conjunction with the Office for Institutional Diversity will make the final selection and notify those selected by March 12, 2018.
