If attention is an increasingly scarce resource today, what role does the classroom play in helping students spend it wisely? This session will explore some of the practical decisions we make in teaching -- whether to lecture or lead a discussion, whether to allow devices in the classroom, whether to use personal response systems like clickers -- but we’ll discuss them in the broader context of new pedagogical approaches, recent research in brain science, and the experience we all have figuring out how to manage attention in our own lives.
