Frequently Asked Questions and Important Phone Numbers
boston college commencement
What is the date of the Commencement Exercises?
Commencement is Monday, May 18, 2015. For a full list of dates and times please refer to the Schedule of Events and Activities by clicking on the link above.
Are tickets necessary for any of the ceremonies?
No, tickets are not required for the main ceremony or diploma ceremonies in normal weather conditions. In case of severe weather some diploma ceremonies are held in different locations requiring tickets. Rain tickets are distributed to students either at cap and gown pick up (A&S and CSOM) or in the deans' offices (LSOE and CSON, grad and undergrad).
When should we plan on arriving in Boston?
The majority of parents arrive on Saturday to take part in both the Sunday and Monday programs and activities.
When should we plan on leaving Boston?
Since all graduates will depart from Boston College on Monday in late afternoon or early evening, parents should plan to do so, too, unless they wish to extend their stay for personal reasons.
Is there space available on campus for private receptions during Commencement weekend? Also, what time is Commencement completed so that I may plan a reception?
No, we are unable to offer space for private functions because of the many events already taking place on Campus. We would suggest, however, that you contact a local restaurant or hotel. Individual School/College diploma ceremonies should be completed by 2:00 p.m.
What is the proper attire for guests over Commencement Weekend?
It is recommended that guests plan their attire based on the weather. The weather in the Boston area in the month of May ranges from extremely hot and humid to very cool and possibly rainy. The Campus terrain is quite hilly; therefore comfortable shoes are highly recommended. Most guests prefer business casual.
