The term AHANA was coined to represent African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Native American students at Boston College. Today, AHANA is used at Boston College and at other campuses across the nation to celebrate diversity.

Mission:

The mission of AHANA Career Services (ACS) is to empower AHANA students of Boston College and all students with unique career development considerations to be proactive and participatory in their own career development by offering programs, workshops, and services that engage, inspire, and increase their career awareness and success.

AHANA Career Services isn’t a replacement for the services offered by the Career Services Center. Rather, it is a supplemental and specific purpose career outreach program that considers the demonstrable social, historical, political, and economic influences on AHANA students as individuals in meeting their career development goals.

Message from the ACS Director:

Hello to the AHANA students of Boston College!

Through walking around the campus and meeting some of you, I remind myself what it was like being a student in the college Mecca of Boston, MA. I come from CT., not far from here, and spent lots of time, like many of you, taking part in activities and trying to zero in on what made me cool. Of course at the time I had no idea I’d be a career counselor, which has made the journey to Boston College all the more special. With wonderful experiences in the theatre and as a writer, I have come to deeply appreciate the stories we bring with us to school, and to our careers.

As a part of the Boston College community, I am honored and excited to be working with you as you figure out this thing called a CAREER. At AHANA Career Services, there are several resources and tools available that will assist you on your career path, whether you’re a freshman, staff member or alumni. Working with a career counselor can address a multitude of issues, beyond that impressive cover letter and stylized resume. You can work on how you to present yourself and communicate your skills abilities to prospective employers. As you solidify your goals and learn more about who you are, its imperative to utilize programs that can help you show professionals in the field, why you’re right for the job.

As we deal with economic challenges, it is all the more important to give us a visit. Continue to question yourself about what your career means to you. No matter where you are during your time at Boston College, I encourage you to come by either in person, or by calling us at 617-552-4539. Come to us with any questions, concerns and to find out about upcoming events and programs. There is so much to explore as you hone your skills, define your goals and embrace your gifts.

All the best for a successful year,
Jessica Chance
