What is EmployOn?

EmployOn is a "web spider" that pulls in over 4.5 million job listings from over 165,000 websites.
You can search for jobs or internships.

Can I access EmployOn from my computer?

Yes you can! EmployOn now allows you to log in and create your own account from any computer.

What is the most effective way to conduct searches on EmployOn?

Searching for job listings by Job Title will bring up only those jobs that match the exact title you enter.
Searching for job listings using the Skills/Qualifications field will usually result in a much better selection of job listings.

What words should go into the Skills/Qualifications field?

Use a list of skills and terms that indicate a base of knowledge, rather than just the name of the career field. Using "public relations" as an example: if you include several skills in the Skills/Qualifications field, you will likely see some good job listings in such areas as corporate communications, media relations and event management, job listings that would be a good fit with your career interests and skills but that don't contain the words "public" or "relations."

public relations writing editing press releases events marketing promotions
(NOTE that you can enter as many words as you like into the Job Description field.)

Where do these skills come from?

IF you have experience in a particular career and/or industry, you will probably find these skills already on your resume.
IF you are looking for jobs in a career that is new to you, at least some of the skills you enter in the Job Description field should still come from your experience and your resume. BUT some of the skills you list may come from actual job descriptions or from career descriptions such as those provided in the online Occupational Outlook Handbook (clicking on this link will open another browser window).

NOTE: don't use punctuation (no commas or quotation marks).
NOTE: when you use the Job Description field to search for jobs, the system will list the best matches first. In other words, the job listings that have the most matches with the words that you enter will be at the top of the list.
