2012 Summer Social & Human Services Internship Grant

 

THE STIPEND:

Five Stipends of $3,400 will be available to juniors who plan to do unpaid summer internships in a not-for-profit field dealing with social and human services. Eligibility: Juniors (rising seniors - students who have completed their junior year)

THE APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS:

  1. You must first apply to an internship. For assistance in finding an internship, check the listings on the EagleLink internship database and our other internship resources. Or stop by The Internship Office between the hours of 1-4, Monday through Friday, for assistance.

    Create your own internship. Contact an organization with ideas regarding a project you would like to undertake or submit a plan for a project you would like to do independently. Independent projects must be supervised by someone who has expertise in the subject matter.
  2. Download, fill out, and submit an internship stipend proposal, attaching a copy of your resume to the proposal.

    • Fill it out in Microsoft Word.
    • Return it to us as an attachment to an e-mail message (internships@bc.edu).
    • Please put "2012 human services grant" as the Subject to your email.
  3. Be sure to attach a copy of your resume to the proposal.
  4. You must be accepted into the internship before the award can be made but you do not need to have received final acceptance to apply.

TIMELINE:

  1. DEADLINE: Friday, March 30, 2012
  2. SELECTION: Wednesday, April 18, 2012

CRITERIA:

  1. The internship should be focused on providing social and human services
  2. The internship must provide valuable, career-related experience and learning goals must be established and met.
  3. The internship must be with a nonprofit/human services organization.
  4. Supervision and training must be provided.
  5. The internship must be non-paying and full-time (30-40 hours for 8-12 weeks). 
  6. Grant money is paid out on a weekly schedule, based on hours worked.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  1. Continue searching for an internship/summer employment while you are waiting to hear about the internship stipend.
  2. The stipend will be paid through the Boston College Payroll Office (Kronos). Stipend amount will be paid on an hourly rate based on time worked and satisfactory performance. It is considered income and therefore taxable. Pay frequency is done on a weekly basis.
