WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE THE FAIR?
BC STUDENTS - ATTEND A PREP WORKSHOP
We’ll help you tone up your resume and make the most of the Education Career Fair!
- Monday, February 20, 2012 – 3:00 PM, Fulton 145
- Wednesday, February 22, 2012 – 5:30 PM, Fulton 245
1) Research employers and anticipated openings:
http://bc-csm.symplicity.com/students/ - Accessible to BC students and alumni only
- Graduates from the classes of 2008-2010 and current students: An Eaglelink account already exists in your name and may be accessed using your Agora username and password. If you do not know your password, click on “Forgot Password.”
- Alumni from earlier classes should click on “Alumni Registration.”
- Once into EagleLink, click on "2011 Boston College Education Fair" OR click on Events, then click on Career Fairs.
Check the web sites of employers that interest you, and try to develop a couple of questions to ask each employer based on the information you found on their site.
- If you are interested in independent schools – READ our page on Teaching in Independent Schools
- If you are interested in Catholic schools – take a look at our page on Teaching in Catholic Schools
2) Know how you'll approach the employer.
What do you want the employer to know about you? Which of your skills or past experiences would you like to highlight? Have a short "sales pitch" ready. Think of it as your very own 15-second commercial. Also have some good questions prepared to ask the employer.
3) Get your resume set.
- Attend a Resume Workshop for Teacher Candidates:
- Resume workshops are held at the Career Center a few times a week.
- Look at our Resumes for Teachers pages
- Resume critique. Set up an appointment for a critique (617-552-3430) or stop into the Career Center for drop-ins held Monday through Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (arrive by 3:30) and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, 5-7 PM.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
If you own a suit, we strongly recommend that you wear it - it will demonstrate your professionalism and seriousness of purpose. If you don't own a suit and can't borrow one, there are alternatives. For most female students, dressy slacks or a skirt with a simple blouse; wear a blazer if you have one. Male students should wear pressed slacks and a pressed shirt. A blazer and/or a tie would be good additions to your outfit.
