Survey Trends
Summary from Past Ten Years

   SURVEY TRENDS

The Career Center surveys alumni each year six months after graduation. In addition, we have conducted several surveys asking alumni to review their careers ten years after they graduated.

The focus of each survey is on:

  • career choice
  • graduate education
  • the job search

Beyond the basic information that focus provides, questions are included about values, decision factors and life-style issues.

The results indicated that:

  1. The graduates were engaged in over forty different career fields.
  2. Networking, on the job experience and graduate school education were significant factors in their career development.
  3. Over sixty percent of the graduates responding to the ten-year surveys had changed jobs three or more times. Over half of the ten-year respondents had changed careers fields at least once. The predominant reasons for changing were positive - the reasons included personal values, independence, increased responsibilities, advancement, and higher income.
  4. Personal contacts through professional colleagues and friends were significant in locating current positions. These proactive job search methods were used by the majority of graduates.
  5. Alumni responding to the survey were in careers which they enjoyed. Eighty percent of the ten-year respondents indicated they were satisfied or very satisfied with their current job content.
