Americorps: Corporation for National Service
AmeriCorps is the national service program that allows people of all ages and backgrounds to earn help paying for education in exchange for a year of service. AmeriCorps members also meet community needs, such as teaching, with services that range from housing renovation to child immunization to neighborhood policing. Currently, more than 25,000 AmeriCorps members serve in over 430 programs across the country.
Alliance for Catholic Education
A two-year service program allowing college graduates to serve as full-time teachers in under-resourced Catholic schools across the southern United States. Graduates are awarded a tuition-free Master of Education degree from the University of Notre Dame. While teaching, participants live in small communities of 4-7 members and together share the many challenges and rewards of beginning teaching and are encouraged to develop their spirituality.

Inner City Teacher Corps
ICTC is a volunteer service program that places outstanding recent college graduates as classroom teachers in Chicago's inner-city parochial schools. The Institute is designed for non-education majors teaching in the inner city and involves interactive classroom experiences. Upon successful completion of the requirements for the Alternative Teacher Certification Program, Corps members earn a State of Illinois teaching certificate. Members of the ICTC commit themselves to a simple lifelstyle in an effort to identify more closely with the communities they serve.
Mother Caroline Academy (of Boston)
Mother Caroline Academy is a small, innovative Catholic middle school in Dorchester, Massachusetts, the inner city of Boston, founded to provide a strong education to academically motivated, economically disadvantaged girls from the area. "Past teachers have found emotional, spiritual and professional support, close friendships and personal growth in the MCA community. From diverse backgrounds we have come together for a common purpose. We have discovered rewards which we continue to carry throughout our lives."
Nativity Preparatory School
A Jesuit Catholic school - not Archdiocesan, Nativity provides a free [all the boys are on scholarship] middle school for inner city Boston boys from low income households. The goal is to enable the students to gain admisson to the Catholic secondary and other prep schools in Boston and New England. Most teachers are volunteers, like the JVC, for whom we provide a small stipend, board and room, health insurance, and eligibility for an Americorps education grant. Many go on to other professions following their two year commitment to Nativity.
New York Nativity Centers
Teach at a Jesuit Middle School in the South Bronx, Crown Heights in Brooklyn, the lower east side of Manhattan. Give the chance of a Jesuit education to youngsters whose families could never afford such an opportunity! Only requirements: a bachelor's degree (any field), the desire to make a difference, a generous spirit.

Providence Alliance for Catholic Teachers (PACT)
The PACT program is a two year service-teaching program that places graduates as teachers in low-income area Catholic schools, while working to earn a Masters of Education degree at Providence College and eligibility for teacher certification. PACT members teach classes in language arts, English literature, British and American literature, history, science, mathematics, Spanish, religious studies, and other subject areas. They also coach sports teams, act as advisors to students, and are leaders of school retreats.
Red Cloud Volunteers
Pine Ridge Sioux Reservation teachers who live and serve in the community for one year commitments. Insurance, room & board, travel expenses and monthly stipend.
The Remick Fellowship
For non-education majors interested in a career in Catholic education, teaching at the secondary level in the disciplines of mathematics, social studies, modern foreign languages, English/language arts, life science, physical science, music and religion. Earn a Master of Arts in Instruction and teacher certification in an intensive 12-month program while pursuing additional study and mentoring in ethical leadership skills. Remick Fellows will receive full tuition, room and board while enrolled in the program on the Winona Campus of Saint Mary's University of Minesota.

The Urban Catholic Teacher Corps
The UCTC offers new teachers an opportunity to gain classroom experience in the inner city under the mentorship of seasoned Catholic school teachers, while they receive professional and spiritual guidance and direction. Corps members live together in a community house in Dorchester, MA. They receive full room and board, a stipend for personal expenses, medical and dental coverage, and allowances for food and transportation.

certified to teach in
What type of person are they looking for?
Not
everyone who teaches in the Catholic schools considers themselves a Catholic or
even a practicing Christian. However, as Sr. Francis Miriam of the Archdiocese
puts it, you should be leading a "faith-based life." In addition, the
Catholic schools offer a more challenging academic experience to students than
do some of the public schools, and consequently, you should be well-prepared to
teach your particular academic discipline.
What are the benefits of working in a
You have
the opportunity to teach and to model a religious- and values-centered approach
to life. More simply put, you have the opportunity to talk to your students
about God. Classes are frequently smaller than in the public schools, and there
are fewer discipline problems. Parental cooperation and involvement is high.
And, again in the words of Sr. Francis Miriam, there is "often more of a
family spirit at Catholic schools, and an opportunity to build a Christian
community."
