The Boston College Police Department, under the direction of the Chief of Police, consists of 51 full time sworn police officers providing 24 hour-a-day services. We provide a specialized police service to the Boston College community - specialized services which go beyond those of strict law enforcement. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts grants police authority to our officers, giving them the same authority and powers as local or state police in or upon the lands and structures owned, used, or occupied by the University. Additionally, Boston College police officers have deputy sheriff powers for use in off-campus situations.
Officers are trained at approved Police Academies and are certified in first aid and cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Additionally, fifteen officers qualify as EMT's. All officers receive additional hours of specialized training each year to keep them current with changing trends and developments in Law Enforcement and Emergency Medical Services.
The men and women of this department urge you to become involved in your personal safety. Throughout the year, officers conduct seminars and other community service activities to keep the students, faculty, and staff aware of issues on and around campus. We invite everyone to join us in reducing the incidents of crime on campus.
Please check out our other pages and learn about the services available to you. We look forward to working with you to continue our goal of "working together for a safer community."
