Physical Security

Physical security should be designed to prevent unauthorized access to University assets and accounting records. Examples of physical security mechanisms include a safe, vault, locked doors/desk drawers, Campus Police guards, computer passwords, and card key systems.

Risks:
  • Assets can be stolen.
  • Private information might be disclosed to unauthorized individuals.
  • Assets might be used for fraudulent purposes.
Controls:
  • Offices should be properly secured from unauthorized access by employees or visitors.
  • Cash and checks should be properly secured and safeguarded within the department.
  • Servers and desktop computers should be properly protected.
