Recipient of the 4th Annual Arts Council Award for Distinguished Achievement

This year the Boston College Arts Council has selected comedian Amy Poehler to receive the annual Arts Council Alumni Award for Distinguished Achievement in the spring of 2006. She will make an EXCLUSIVE Boston appearance at the 8th annual Boston College Arts Festival (April 27-29). While visiting, Ms. Poehler will perform with My Mother's Fleabag, an improv/comedy group she performed with while at BC, participate in a career-related program, Inside the BC Studio, for students exploring a career in improv and comedy, and will receive the Arts Council award at the annual Alumni Evening at the Arts Festival on Saturday, April 29. |
Amy Poehler, a native of Burlington, Massachusetts, graduated in 1993 with a degree in theater and communications and performed regularly with My Mother’s Fleabag. After graduating, Poehler traveled to Chicago to perform with Second City, ImprovOlympic (studying with Del Close), and the Upright Citizens Brigade. When this group moved its base of operations to New York, she helped to found the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (UCBT), where she continues to teach and perform. She has appeared on Comedy Central with the UCBT and joined NBC’s Saturday Night Live cast in 2001. Currently, she co-hosts SNL’s popular “Weekend Update” program with Tina Fey and has appeared in several successful films.
