Recipient of the 3rd Annual Arts Council Award for Distinguished Achievement
This year the Boston College Arts Council has selected photographer James Balog '74 to receive the annual Arts Council Alumni Award for Distinguished Achievement in the spring of 2005. He will have the premiere exhibition of his recent project – TREE: A New Vision of the American Forest – in the Boston College McMullen Museum of Art (April 14 – July 12) and make an exclusive Boston appearance at the 7th annual Boston College Arts Festival (April 28-30). While visiting, Mr. Balog will offer a lecture about the TREE project; participate in a career-related program, Inside the BC Studio, for students exploring a career in photography, and will receive the Arts Council award at the annual Alumni Evening at the Arts Festival on Saturday, April 30. For two decades James Balog '74 has consistently broken ground in the art of photographing nature. His provocative and powerful images have been published in National Geographic Adventure and repeatedly in numerous other magazines including Time, Smithsonian, Audubon, Outside, Stern and Paris-Match. The author of six books that have been considered major conceptual advances in nature photography, Balog has received international acclaim and numerous awards. His photographs have been exhibited around the globe in prominent arts institutions from Greece and Paris to New York and Los Angeles. Boston College is honored to host the first exhibition of TREE: A New Vision of the American Forest and to welcome Mr. Balog back to Boston College.

A public interview program modeled after Bravo TV's Inside the Actor’s Studio. James Balog '74 will be interviewed by Robert Klein, owner of the Robert Klein Gallery on Newbury Street in Boston. This Gallery is the only major art gallery in New England devoted exclusively to Fine Art photography.
