Geology Society Series Now Online Via the Library

While almost all of the geology journals we subscribe to at Boston College Libraries have been available electronically for some time, many of the books series, such as special publications, memoirs, and field guides are now accessible online as well. These series contain thematic collections of research and can be a valuable supplement to the journal literature.

The most recent additions are the book series of the Geological Society of America (GSA) and a series of eBook packages via GeoScienceWorld.

The GSA eBooks, including the Special Papers, Memoirs, and Field Guides, start with the current year and we will continue receiving new editions as they are published.  One recent in-demand Special Paper now available in eBook format is The 2011 Mineral, Virginia, Earthquake, and its Significance for Seismic Hazards in Eastern North America (2015) Horton, J., Chapman, M. C., & Green, Russell A., eds.

The GeoScienceWorld packages cover many of the older editions of book series from several scholarly societies. We have acquired the content from 1926-2014. One example, a publication of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, is Digital Imaging and Deconvolution: The ABCs of Seismic Exploration and Processing  by Enders A. Robinson and Sven Treitel, 2008.

Not a new acquisition, but also a valuable source of scholarly society eBooks (and journals) is the Lyell Collection, which includes the Special Publications, Memoirs, and Engineering Special Publications of the Geological Society of London  These include almost all volumes back to 1958. An example is the Special Publication Early Palaeozoic Peri-Gondwana Terranes: New Insights from Tectonics and Biogeography, v. 325, 2009.

All titles are available via our online catalog on the library homepage, and also should be findable through searches in GeoRef (and GeoScienceWorld for the books in the GeoScienceWorld eBook packages).
