Social Work Course Reserves Info

social work research help

Required textbooks and other books and items on the syllabus that have required or recommended readings are placed on reserve for the semester. Request them by call number from the Social Work Library Circulation Desk. Books and other items on reserve at the library are available for 2-hour loan and must be used within the library. To ensure that all students have access to reserve materials, loans are limited to one item at a time. A valid BC ID is needed to borrow reserve materials.

Fines for late 2-hour reserves are $1 per hour, per item. Overdue notices are sent to the student's BC e-mail account. Replacement costs and processing charges for non-returned reserve materials will be billed to the student's university account.

Note: Not all recommended books are available and on reserve; please check the course reserves listing. Required textbooks are also available at offsite locations; check with the site coordinator for the location and borrowing guidelines.

In some cases, if only a single chapter from a book has been assigned as a required reading, an electronic copy of the chapter is available online. Check the course reserves listing. Chapters will be listed under the author and title of the chapter if different from the editor and title of the book.

Journal Articles
Electronic copies of required journal articles are available through the Course Reserves Catalog. To open the file, click on the link in the right-hand column of the course listing.

To print a PDF, use the print icon within Adobe Acrobat Reader or use keyboard commands (Ctrl-P on PCs/Windows; Command-P on Macs/OS X). Do NOT use the print function from the File menu on your web browser.

Viewing the Course Reserves List
The easiest way to view the course reserves list for your class is to use the link in your course’s Blackboard Vista site. You can also access the Course Reserves Catalog directly through Quest Library Catalog. In Quest, click on the Course/Online Reserves tab and login using your BC username and password. We recommend you search by “Course Number beginning with …” Items in the course list are arranged alphabetically by author’s last name. You can click on the column heading “Title” to arrange them in order by title.

A loose-leaf binder containing all course syllabi is kept at the Social Work Library Circulation Desk. The syllabi are annotated with the call numbers of books and indications when a reading is found online or in the Blackboard Vista site.
