How do I get a job in a campus library?
Each Library hires students directly. Stop by one of the Libraries to complete an application or submit an online application. A staff member will contact you.

Note: Applications for student positions at the O'Neill Library will only be taken online. Applications will be reviewed by the department student supervisors beginning August 15th and continuing through September 15th or later if positions still need to be filled.

I don't have Work Study, does it matter?
The University gives preference to students with a Work Study award, but hire MANY students that don't have Work Study so apply for a job in September and we will call you when jobs become available.

How many hours do I have to work?
Although individual hours are coordinated at the department level, students usually work an average of 8-10 hours per week.

How much will I get paid?
The current beginning student pay rate is $7.50 per hour.

How many students work in the Libraries?
There are over 150 students employed in the Libraries - the majority in O'Neill Library.

How do I find out about job openings?
You can visit a library to find about jobs or visit the University's student employment web site to see jobs listed for all libraries as well as other jobs available on and off campus. To view the listing, go to the Boston College Student Employment pages.

What kind of work would I be doing?
Each library has a variety of work that is performed by students. Typical jobs include answering telephones, charging and discharging books and media, database searching, photocopying, labeling or repairing books, finding books on the shelves, helping patrons locate materials, courier service between the Newton Campus and O'Neill, basic computer repairs and software installation.

I never worked in a library, will you still hire me?
We are looking for students who can work a variety of hours and are conscientious. Most of the students we hire have never worked in a library but are excited about learning new things.
