Do I need a hire form?
Hire forms are no longer used for employment at Boston College. I will use the information from the application to get you onto the BC Employment system.
How long will it be before I receive a pay check?
Once your information is processed online and is approved by Student Services, it usually takes about two weeks from the time of your first day at work.
Where do I pick up checks?
All pay is now directly deposited into an employee's bank account. You should set this up with a staff member at the Human Resource Service Center in More Hall 370.
What sort of paperwork do I need to fill out?
You fill out I-9 documentation in Student Services, Lyons 120. You fill out tax forms, a personal data form, and the direct deposit form at HRSC, More Hall 370.
What is the rate of pay?
The beginning rate for student employees is $7.50 with increases each year.
Does it matter if I have Federal Work Study or not?
The University gives preference to students with a Work Study award. The Libraries hire many students that don't have this award so feel free to apply for a job in September and we will call you when jobs become available.
How many hours do I have to work?
Although individual hours are coordinated at the department level, students usually work an average of 8-10 hours per week. Since the Libraries have long hours there are many opportunities to fit a job into your schedule. Busses run between the Newton and Chestnut Hill campuses from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. so it is easy to go from one campus to another.
How many students work in the Libraries?
There are approximately 150 students employed in the Libraries - the majority in O'Neill Library.
How do I find out about job openings?
You can visit a library to find out about jobs or visit the University's Student Employment web site to see jobs listed for all libraries as well as other jobs available on campus.
