Africa and GATS
The Association of African Universities (AAU), in collaboration with the Council on Higher Education (CHE)/South Africa, and UNESCO (African Region Scientific Committee of the Forum on
Higher Education, Research and Knowledge; and Global Forum on International Quality Assurance, Accreditation and the Recognition of Qualifications), has developed an initiative
for raising awareness among African higher education leaders and policy makers about the important issues raised by the inclusion of education in the negotiations under the World
Trade Organisation's General Agreement on Trade in Services (WTO/GATS).

Center for Higher Education Transformation (CHET)
The Centre for Higher Education Transformation (CHET) mobilises trans-disciplinary skills for specific projects by tapping available expertise in the national and international higher
education sector. A non-hierarchical, flexible management style, modern information technology, and a heavy reliance on consultants and steering committees affords CHET the unique
capacity to respond to higher education needs with only a limited number of full time staff. The site is a source of papers and publications on issues in higher education with

Cooperative African Newspapers Project
The Cooperative African Newspapers Project is an initiative to enhance the utilization of newspapers as a source of information about Africa. The project explores issues related to the preservation of this inherently ephemeral and fragile form of publication and access to contents through both traditional and new technologies.
The core of the Cooperative African Newspapers Project is the African Newspapers Union List (AFRINUL), a centralized electronic database of holdings information for newspapers (all formats and all languages) published in sub-Saharan Africa.

South Africa
Higher Education South Africa (HESA)
HESA came into being as the result of a merger between the
South African Universities Vice-Chancellors Association (SAUVCA)
and the Committee of Technikon Principals (CTP).
SAUVCA was established as a statutory body for the 21 public
universities in South Africa by the Universities Act (Act
61 of 1955). As a statutory body, it made recommendations
to the Minister and Director-General of Education on matters
referred to it or alternatively on any other issues, which
it deemed important for universities. Publications and reports are available for download.
