Microsoft e-Learning at Boston College
Account Setup Instructions
Summary:  Microsoft's e-Learning allows Boston College faculty, staff, and students to take advantage of a wide range of online courses that cover Microsoft's operating systems (XP and Vista), Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and other Microsoft products.

You may access Microsoft’s e-Learning program as part of Boston College’s license agreement with Microsoft. To verify that you are a member of the Boston College community and eligible to use the program, you must complete an initial setup process. You must be using Windows and Internet Explorer; the Microsoft e-Learning classes are not accessible on the Mac OS or with any other Web browser.

OBTAIN THE BOSTON COLLEGE ACCESS CODE
  Obtain the New Window Will Open Boston College access code. BC sign-in required (BC sign-in required)
Do not share the code with any unauthorized users; this violates our license agreement with Microsoft.
REGISTER YOUR ACCESS CODE AND EMAIL ADDRESS WITH MICROSOFT (initial setup only)
 
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to: New Window Will Open https://business.microsoftelearning.com/activate/
  3. You will see the Enter Access Code window (see Figure 1).
    • Click the link to read the Data Sharing Notice and acknowledge that you have read and accepted the agreement by clicking in the checkbox.
    • Enter the Boston College Access Code you obtained in step one. (The code is case sensitive.)
    • Enter your BC email address in the form: Firstname.Lastname.#@bc.edu
    • Click Send.

  1. Click the Sign In button (see Figure 2).

  2. On the next screen you are prompted to sign in using a valid Windows Live ID. You may already have an ID if you have a Hotmail account or have accessed other Microsoft services on the web.

    If you don't have a Windows Live ID, you need to create one. Click the Sign Up Now button (see Figure 3).

  3. In the next screen you will be asked to complete a form:
    • Enter your email address.
    • Create and confirm a password. For security reasons, ITS strongly recommends that you do NOT use your BC password.
    • Enter the characters depicted in the security picture.
    • Review the agreements and click I accept.
  4. Complete the required fields (* = required) in the e-Learning for Business screen. Click Continue.
  5. Verify that your email address is correct. Click Continue.
  6. Access the email account you specified, you should see three messages from Microsoft (see Figure 4). Open the message marked Verification E-Mail. If Internet Explorer is your default browser, click on the link. If not, copy and paste the link into Internet Explorer. We suggest that you save the three messages for future reference.

  7. You may be prompted to sign-in with your Windows Live ID email address and password that you just created (see Figure 5).

  8. Click the Learning Catalog link to view/search a list of available courses. Click on a course title to view the offering.
  9. Click Begin This Course. You have 12 months from the time of launch to finish that course.

To access your course(s) at any subsequent time, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to:New Window Will Open https://business.microsoftelearning.com/
    Note: You may want to add this URL to your bookmarks.
  2. Click the Sign In button in the upper right corner of the page.
  3. Sign in to Windows Live using your Windows Live ID and password.
  4. Click the Learning Catalog link to view/search a list of available courses. Click on a course title to view the offering.
  5. Click Begin This Course or click the My Learning to resume your e-Learning course. You have 12 months from the time of launch to finish that course.
