Departmental Mailing Addresses

Boston College has two primary campuses. The mailing addresses for these are:

Main Campus
140 Commonwealth Avenue
Chestnut Hill, MA 02467

Newton Campus
885 Centre Street
Newton Centre, MA 02459

Most University departments are on main campus. The Law School and Law Library are the main organizational units located on the Newton Campus. A few University offices have addresses at other satellite locations. You can consult the Department Directory to determine a department's building, room and campus location.

If you are uncertain of the address for a particular office or department, we suggest that you simply mail to :

Name of the department
Boston College
Chestnut Hill, MA 02467

Individual Mailing Addresses

To find the building and room address of a BC office or academic department, consult the Department Directory. To find the address of an individual faculty member, staff member or current student, consult the Individuals Directory.

When addressing a letter to faculty or staff members, along with the individual's name or title, the office or department is preferred; building and room numbers are not needed for addressing but should be included if known. The address would look like the following:

Name
Department
Building and Room Number (if known)
Boston College
Chestnut Hill, MA 02467

When addressing a letter to a student on the main Chestnut Hill campus, you need to include the student's post office box which is not published in the on-line directory at this time, but can be determined by looking up the student's building in this P. O. Box Table. The mail room asks that you use the P. O. Box to speed the delivery of the mail. The address would look like:

Name
Boston College
Building and Room Number
P.O. Box ####
Chestnut Hill, MA 02467-####

NOTE: You use the Post Office box number twice: once as the actual PO Box number and again attached to the zip code. Your cooperation is appreciated as an incomplete address can delay the sorting of mail and packages for a week or longer.

When addressing a letter to a student on the Newton campus, the building and room number are necessary. There is no P. O. number for Newton Residence halls, but there is a zip+4 number. The mailer asks that you use the zip+4 to speed the delivery of the mail. The address would look like the following:

Name
Boston College
Building and Room Number
885 Centre Street
Newton Centre, MA 02459-####

Departmental Telephone Numbers

The main telephone number for the University is (617) 552-8000. However, the University uses a direct inward dialing system that allows you to call directly to departments and most individuals without operator assistance. We encourage you to look up the specific phone number for offices in the Department Directory and individual students, faculty and staff in the Individuals Directory. You may also want to consult our list of Frequently Called Telephone Numbers. Many offices also list FAX numbers in the entries in the Department Directory. There is no general University FAX number.

Departmental Email Addresses

There is no central University e-mail address. Offices and organizations that have general e-mail addresses ordinarily supply this information on their home pages. We suggest you use the alphabetical index or the hierarchical list of schools, departments and organizations to locate the home page of the office you are interested in contacting. Some general e-mail addresses for organizations can be found in the Individuals Directory. Use the pull-down menu to change the "Search in:" selection from "People" to "MailGroups". You may also want to browse our list of Frequently Requested Email Addresses.

Individual Email Addresses

The e-mail addresses for individual students, faculty and staff can be found in the Individuals Directory.

If you know the exact spelling of an individual's name, you can usually reach him/her by using the e-mail address format "firstname.lastname@bc.edu" (without the quotes). In the case of individuals with common names, the e-mail system will reply to you with a list of individuals which match the name you specified, along with some distinguishing information such as year of graduation or department affiliation, and their fully qualified e-mail addresses. You will then need to resend your message to the fully qualified e-mail address of the person you were trying to reach.
