Required of Clinical Social Work students; elective for others.
An examination of the etiology and identification of adult mental disorders
utilizing the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Focus
is on psychological, genetic, and biochemical theories of mental illness;
biopsychosocial stressors in symptom formation, assessment and treatment;
cultural determinants in psychopathology; differential diagnosis; and drug
therapies.
