Beginning in the Middle Ages and running through to the middle of the twentieth
century, this course will examine the fusion of German-language texts with
musical expression in the context of their social and cultural environment.
A central focus of the course will be the great age of German music during
the eighteenth and nineteenth centuriesincluding among others the
works of Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.
