GE 264 Stratigraphy and Sedimentation (Fall: 4)
Prerequisite:
GE 132
Corequisite:
GE 265 Lab
Offered Biennially
Sedimentary rocks cover most of the surface of the earth and are valuable
repositories for energy and information about the history of the earth.
The goal of this course is to teach students how to "read" the history recorded
in these rocks. This course will cover the basics of sedimentary rock description
recognition and correlation over long distances in the field. We will also
learn about the processes that produce sediment; transportation of sediment
in streams, rivers, and bodies of standing water; and the formation of carbonate
limestones. A 3-hour lab is required.
