EN 626.01 Studies in American Culture: Globalization and Culture (Fall 2008-2009: 3)
Globalization and Culture
Explores the cultural dimension of globalization,
with a focus on the global spread of American culture and the entry into
the United States of cultural forms from other parts of the world. The
course begins with a brief overview of globalization as an economic phenomenon
and then takes up texts that take globalization as their subject matter.
From there, we will read theoretical essays that seek to explain the process
and consequences of cultural globalization, and apply these theories to
a range of cultural forms, including movies, novels, music, and sports.
