EN 550.01 Adv Nonfiction Workshop:Writing for Magazines (Spring 2008-2009: 3)
Admission by permission of instructor. By November 7, 2008, submit a writing
sample of not more than 10 pages to Carlo Rotella's mailbox in the English
Department office.
Practicing and studying the craft of magazine writing, we will write and
read a variety of articles--features, profiles, reviews, columns, etc.--and
work on professional skills, such as pitching a story. Expect to write
short pieces every week, workshop other students' prose every week, and
write and revise at least two longer articles over the course of the semester.
We will also consider models provided by accomplished journalists.
