BI 570 Biology of the Nucleus (Fall: 3)
Prerequisite:
One of the following: BI 435, BI 440, CH 561, or CH 562 or instructor permission
Satisfies the advanced experience requirement for the Biology major.
This course provides an in-depth treatment of the molecular biology of DNA
and RNA, with particular emphasis on the control and organization of the
genetic material of eukaryotic organisms. Topics include chromatin structure
and function, histone modifications, DNA replication, gene activation and
silencing, DNA methylation, and RNA interference. Emphasis is on experimental
design, and analysis of the primary literature.
