BI 484 Research in Biochemistry Lab (Spring: 3)
Prerequisite:
BI204 and BI435 or CH561 or equivalent
Satisfies the advanced experience requirement for the Biology major. Lab
fee required.
This course introduces students to experimental techniques used in modern
biochemistry within the context of original investigations. Students will
learn methods involved in the separation and characterization of biological
macromolecules, including electrophoresis, protein over-expression, HPLC
and mass spectroscopy. Students will work in teams on projects that they
have designed in consultation with the instructors, with the goal of generating
data that will be used in a research publication. Ideal for students interested
in gaining practical experience in biochemical research.
