BI 442 Current Topics in Ecology (Fall: 3)
Prerequisite:
BI 201 (or BI 202)
Satisfies the advanced experience requirement for the Biology major.
Students in Ecology will investigate interrelationships among organisms
and between organisms and their physical environments. Students will become
familiar with looking at ecological processes on a hierarchy of interconnected
levels, including those of the molecule, individual, population, community,
and ecosystem. The class will discuss classic experiments in ecology, as
well as unresolved ecological questions of special current relevance. There
will be an emphasis on developing a conceptual understanding of ecological
relationships, on exploring the analytical tools with which ecological hypotheses
are generated and tested, and on appreciating the dynamic nature of populations
and ecosystems.
