BI 420 Introduction to Bioinformatics (Fall: 3)
Prerequisite:
A genetics course (BI315, BI319 or BI417)
Bioinformatics is an emerging field at the intersection of biology, mathematics
and computer science. It harnesses the power and speed of computers to analyze
the molecules essential for life. This introductory course requires that
students have a basic understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and
the Internet, but does not require extensive background in mathematics or
programming. Students will learn bioinformatic tools from the public domain,
public databases, and simple programming tasks in MATLAB and PERL.
