As BC football kicks off its 2007 season with a home game against Wake Forest on September 1, the Alumni Association welcomes BC alumni and friends to another year of family fun at FanFest. Former Trustee Joseph E. "Joe" Corcoran '59, chairman of the privately held real estate development firm Corcoran Jennison Companies, is the 2007 recipient of the William V. McKenney Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Alumni Association. Corcoran was a Boston College trustee from 1998 to 2002, chairing the Buildings and Properties Committee and serving on the Executive Committee. In 2000, he established the Corcoran Scholars Fund to provide financial assistance, mentoring, and internship programs for undergraduate students at BC. Corcoran will receive the McKenney Award at a ceremony to be held on Thursday, September 27, in Robsham Theater. Read more.

Peter B. Dervan '67, the Bren Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, has been named one of eight recipients of the 2006 National Medal of Science. Dervan has pioneered a field of bioorganic chemistry with studies directed toward understanding the chemical principles for the sequence-specific recognition of the genetic material, DNA. The award was announced Monday, July 16, by the White House.
