The following motion was recommended to the dean on May 19, 1999 by the full EPC, and formally approved by the dean on May 28, 1999.
It is the policy of the Lynch School of Education that the standard for contact time for 3-credit graduate courses will be a minimum of 2.5 hours of class contact time per week. This standard may be met by weekly classes of at least 2.5 hours or by classes of varying number and length, provided that the average contact time is no less than 2.5 hours per week. This policy is instituted with the recognition that different amounts of class time may be appropriate for certain classes and programs. This new standard will apply to all classes and programs that do not have a documented need for a different standard. Proposals for fewer contact hours will be submitted to the EPC for a decision. Alternatives approved by the EPC will remain in force until such time as they are rescinded or replaced by the EPC.
