UNDERGRADUATE MAJOR: Environmental Geosciences (now called “Earth and Environmental Sciences”)
MS, Environmental Health Science, University of Georgia; Ph.D., Molecular Biology, University of Maryland, College Park
“Environmental geosciences at BC was a lab-intensive program,” Bradd Haley recalls. “We were trained to be scientists, developing and testing hypotheses. We took a holistic approach to science in the environment that prepared me for graduate school and field research.” Haley developed an interest in microbiology after graduation while he was working for an environmental consulting firm in California. He earned his MS, and then went to Iceland as a Fulbright Fellow to study pathogens in extreme conditions before starting his Ph.D. program. At the U.S.D.A., he investigates how salmonella can spread in farm environments.
