Six Jewish groups urge mainline Protestant churches against Israeli divestment.

New York, NY, April 22, 2005 - A coalition of Jewish groups has endorsed a letter that signed the letter calling on the leaders of mainline Protestant churches to reject moves to divest from companies that conduct business with, and reject any moves toward an economic boycott of, Israel. Signatories include the American Jewish Committee, the American Jewish Congress, the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, the Orthodox Union, the Union for Reform Judaism and the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. The letter states that divestment and boycotts will not foster peace, nor bring about positive change, and that they can only feed into the desires of the extremists.

The letter to the Episcopal Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the National Council of Churches, Presbyterian Church (USA), United Church of Christ and United Methodist Church, the coalition of organizations conveyed the message that the actions of the Presbyterian Church (USA), is harmful to interfaith dialogue, and that they are counterproductive and wrong.
