How does the Center relate to the mission of Boston College?

Jesuits founded Boston College and are dedicated to academic and professional excellence within the context of ethical and relgious priorities.  As Boston College has developed into a highly sophisticated university community, its faculty, staff, and student body have increasingly reflected the diversity and plurality of United States culture.  Boston College will continue to find its meaning and vision both in fidelity to its founding principles and in reverence for the cultural and religious diversity that characterizes its faculty, staff, and student body.  The Center for Ignatian Spirituality offers faculty and staff another resource to carry on the needed dialogue between the values that constitute Boston College and the pluralism that characterizes contemporary culture.

What does the Center do?

The Center works in cooperation with other departments within the University to strengthen the Boston College Jesuit mission and its Ignatian foundation, and also offers its own programs. Most of the offerings of the Center are for Boston College faculty, administrators and staff.

Workshops on aspects of Ignatian and Christian spirituality are offered throughout each semester at the Center. Weekend retreats are offered during the academic year, as well as the eight week Retreat in Everyday Life during the season of Lent. Opportunities for prayer and reflection are offered on occasion at the Center. The Center also sponsors public lectures on its own and in conjunction with other offices on campus. Spiritual direction is available at the Center; referrals can also be made to other spiritual directors on campus or in the area.
