Effective June 30, 2012, SPSS will no longer be available through BC for installation on student home computers. The license will expire on existing home computer installations. Learn more about new options for SPSS on student home computers.

Boston College has site licenses for SPSS or you can use SPSS on the BC Application Server. BC students, faculty, and researchers may download and install an annual license on their home (non BC-owned) computers for use with BC-related work only. These downloads require you to login with your BC username and password.

IBM SPSS 19 for Windows

If you are still using SPSS 18 on Windows please make sure that you download the SPSS 18.0.3 patch.  Please consider upgrading to SPSS 19 as soon as possible.

IBM SPSS 19 for Mac

There have been numerous documented problems with SPSS 18 on the Mac that have caused errors for students, faculty and staff at Boston College and other universities. There are conflicts between SPSS and Java on Mac OS 10.6 and above that may affect performance.   Please consider upgrading to version 19 as soon as possible.

Note: Currently, no version of SPSS is compatible with Mac's Lion OS. Lion users should consider using apps.bc.edu to use this software.

IBM SPSS 18 FOR WINDOWS AND MAC

For several reasons all BC students, faculty, staff, and researchers are strongly encouraged to upgrade to SPSS 19. Fiixes in the software are included in SPSS 19. Additionally, users of SPSS 18 (and older versions) collaborating with anyone using version 19, will be unable to open output files from SPSS 19 users.

Additionally, Mac Snow Leopard users may experience substantial problems related to Java incompatibilities with version 18, even with the 18.0.3 patch installed.

However, if you choose to continue to use version 18, we strongly recommend making sure that you have the latest release of the patch, version 18.0.3. Click the links below for instructions on installing the Windows and Mac versions of the patch, and the instructions on how to relicense SPSS 18.
